Writing and Reading Goals

Although I am not the best at writing down my goals, it is better late than never. Below I will put down three writing goals and three reading goals that will help me be a better and more efficient learner through the rest of the semester and beyond.

Reading Goals


  • Generate a purpose question
  • Make sure I know answer to the purpose question
  • Summarize in my head as I continue to read so I know what I have read

Writing Goals

  • Make sure to outline the main ideas of my paper
  • Make sure to proofread after finishing writing
  • Make sure that everything ties back to my thesis statement

The Scariest thing on Halloween-Turning in my Research Paper

For my research paper, I wrote about underage female marriages. Although I had heard about this practice before it wasn't until I started doing more research that I realized how widespread this issue is and how many girls are affected by it. I did know that girls were more likely to drop out of school if they were married as a teenager or younger but I did not realize that their children had stunted developmental issues. I want to go into social work and this lead me to want to focus more on women and children and maybe eventually work on international policy to help prevent underage marriage. The theories behind why people continue to force girls into early marriage ties in with many of the theories that I have learned in my Sociology classes. Some strategies that worked for my paper were making sure that I had my thesis complete early on so that I could separate out my ideas into different sections. I also jotted down some quick points that I wanted to hit in each of my sections.

Friendship Formation

As someone that would consider themselves shy, it has never been an easy process to make new friends. It takes a little more time for me to form friendships but I do try to go out of my comfort zone and approach people in social settings. I do not have answers on how to approach people to form friendships easier but I have learned a little on how friendships are formed in my sociology class. By using this knowledge there could also be some simple solutions to make sure that friendships stay intact. There are two reasons why people choose the friends they do. One of those reasons is homophily, which is forming friendship due to shared interest. When people share something in common such as the same favorite t.v show, this can lead to friendship and hopefully as time goes on the friends will find other ways to strengthen their bond. Dancing Through Life

I have been dancing for most of my life. I was enrolled in ballet when I was almost seven years old and continued to take ballet until I was a senior in high school. The photo on the left is from my first year of Nutcracker from when I was a snow tree. If you can't tell I am the one on the left in the front. It was probably a good thing I was enrolled in ballet because my throwing and kicking skills are not the best. I am also not the most physically aggressive and would prefer not to run into other people, I do that enough on accident. I was more of a recreational dancer than anything but it has been a constant in my life for the past thirteen years. Since enrolling in college, I have participated in various types of dance such as jazz, social, Polynesian, folk, and Latin.
